Definition of a Sentence:
A sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense. It begins with a capital letter and ends with a full stop (.), question mark (?), or exclamation mark (!) depending on the type.
Types of Sentences:
1. Assertive Sentence (also called Declarative Sentence)
Definition: A sentence that states a fact or an opinion. It can be positive or negative.
Examples:
She is reading a book.
I do not like cold coffee.
2. Interrogative Sentence
Definition: A sentence that asks a question.
Examples:
What is your name?
Are you coming to school today?
3. Imperative Sentence
Definition: A sentence that gives a command, makes a request, or offers advice.
Examples:
Please close the door.
Don’t talk during the movie.
Take your medicine on time.
4. Optative Sentence
Definition: A sentence that expresses a wish, prayer, or blessing.
Examples:
May you live long.
Wish you a happy journey!
5. Exclamatory Sentence
Definition: A sentence that expresses strong feelings like joy, surprise, anger, or sorrow.
Examples:
What a beautiful place this is!
Alas! The bird is dead.
